Medicine Buddha (Tibetan Sangyé Menla སངས་རྒྱས་སྨན་བླ་) is the Buddha of healing, who as a bodhisattva vowed to liberate all sentient beings from illness of body, speech, and mind. Today more than ever, connecting to the Medicine Buddha generates the healing benefits that people and the environment need most. By connecting to Medicine Buddha in any form we generate merit.
In this workshop with master Norbulingka trained thangka painter and teacher, we are going to connect with Medicine Buddha in an artistic way by drawing his form surrounded by the medicinal plants of his botanic healing mandala. We will learn how to draw the proportional grid for creating the form of a seated Buddha according to traditional Tibetan thangka principles. Learning about the symbolism of his iconography, we will draw the outline of his form and then color him, working with awareness and compassionate intention.
We will practice Medicine Buddha meditations and recite his mantra to enhance our connection to the wisdom, compassion and healing qualities of the Medicine Buddha.
You do not need to be an artist to attend this workshop, it is open to anyone who is interested in meditation and contemplative arts and is seeking greater healing for oneself and others.
